The Cable News Network (CNN) is a multinational news-based pay television channel headquartered in Atlanta, United States. It is part of AT&T's WarnerMedia. It was founded in 1980 by American media proprietor Ted Turner and Reese Schonfeld as a 24-hour cable news channel. Upon its launch in 1980, CNN was the first television channel to provide 24-hour news coverage, and was the first all-news television channel in the United States.

People who already watch CNN via cable or satellite will also get expanded news coverage via CNN Plus. The service will have between 8 to 12 hours of live programming each day. It will also feature on-demand news specials, including some that will be exclusive to CNN Plus. Finally, the service will have some interactive elements. People who watch content on the service will interact directly with its news anchors and commentators. Exactly how this will work has not been revealed. CNN has launched a subscription-based news ticker/alert service called Newswatch. The heart of the service is the “SmartScreen”, a full-screen news interface with photos, headlines, personalized alerts, stock charts and other user-selected information. News is gathered from CNN, the leading news wires and more than 2,000 regional, national and world news sites. The information is received through full-screen visuals, breaking news alerts and a scrolling ticker across the top of the screen, and can be routed to the user’s desktop, e-mail or mobile device. The service is powered by Infogate, which has also developed similar services for USA Today. This service is different from the CNN NewsPass service, which gives access to CNN video clips.
