Halo: Campaign Evolved brings the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign into a modern combat sandbox with updated controls, expanded weapons, drivable Covenant vehicles, online co-op and new missions. Although longtime Halo players will recognize many locations and enemies, several new mechanics make the experience different from the original release. This Halo: Campaign Evolved beginner guide explains which mode and difficulty to choose, how to manage shields, the best early-game weapons, vehicle strategies, co-op progression, and if you plan to Buy Halo: Campaign Evolved Account, how Skulls unlock Campaign Remix.

Halo: Campaign Evolved includes the ten rebuilt missions from Halo: Combat Evolved and three new Operation: Meteorite missions featuring Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson.Operation: Meteorite takes place before the main campaign and is available immediately. However, beginners should start with the original campaign because it introduces weapons, enemies and vehicles at a more natural pace.Campaign Remix and LASO are designed for repeat playthroughs. Remix changes enemy formations and weapon locations, while LASO combines Legendary difficulty with multiple gameplay modifiers.
| Mode | What It Includes | Best Choice for Beginners |
|---|---|---|
| Original Campaign | Ten rebuilt Halo: Combat Evolved missions | Play first to learn combat, enemies and vehicles |
| Operation: Meteorite | Three new prequel missions starring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson | Play after learning the basic combat systems |
| Campaign Remix | Randomized enemies, weapons and visual conditions | Try after unlocking several Skulls |
| LASO | Legendary difficulty with 17 required Skulls | Save for an advanced post-game challenge |
Halo: Campaign Evolved offers Easy, Normal, Heroic and Legendary difficulty settings. Higher difficulties increase enemy aggression, durability, numbers and the damage players receive.Normal is the best starting point for most new players. It provides enough challenge to teach shield management and weapon selection without making every encounter overly punishing.Players with experience in first-person shooters can start on Heroic. Legendary is better suited to a second playthrough because enemy attacks are more dangerous and mistakes are punished more heavily.
The game also includes Difficulty Modifier Presets that can change:
Player damage resistance
Shield recharge speed
Weapon damage
Melee damage
Ammunition rules
These modifiers can make the campaign easier or more difficult, but activating them may disable certain Achievements or Trophies. Players attempting achievements should ensure that every Fireteam member has the modifier preset set to None.
Halo combat is built around shields, weapon combinations and positioning. Firing continuously at every enemy is usually less effective than choosing the correct weapon for each stage of a fight.
The basic combat loop is:
Remove the enemy’s energy shield.
Switch to a precision weapon.
Finish the unshielded target with a headshot.
Retreat when Master Chief’s shield becomes weak.
Return to the fight after the shield recharges.
The Plasma Pistol is especially useful against shielded Covenant enemies. A charged shot can remove most energy shields, allowing players to switch to the Magnum or Battle Rifle for a quick headshot.
This plasma-and-precision combination is one of the safest ways to defeat Elites while conserving ammunition.
Halo: Campaign Evolved includes the weapons from the original campaign alongside nine additional weapons from later Halo games. The expanded arsenal includes the Battle Rifle, Energy Sword, Needle Rifle and Brute Plasma Rifle.
| Weapon | Best Use | Beginner Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Magnum | Medium- and long-range precision | Keep it for headshots against unshielded enemies |
| Plasma Pistol | Removing shields and disabling vehicles | Charge one shot, then switch weapons |
| Assault Rifle | Close- to medium-range combat | Fire controlled bursts instead of holding the trigger |
| Battle Rifle | Medium-range precision combat | Aim for the head after breaking a shield |
| SMG | Close-range automatic damage | Avoid using it against distant targets |
| Shotgun | Flood and close-range enemies | Wait until enemies enter effective range |
| Energy Sword | Fast close-range eliminations | Avoid charging into large enemy groups |
| Rocket Launcher | Vehicles and grouped enemies | Maintain distance from the explosion |
| Sniper Rifle or Beam Rifle | Long-range priority targets | Eliminate dangerous enemies before entering open areas |
The Magnum is one of the most useful weapons in the campaign. It can eliminate many unshielded enemies with a single headshot and remains effective at longer ranges. The Assault Rifle is reliable against nearby enemies, but its accuracy decreases during sustained fire. Short bursts make it easier to control. The Shotgun becomes particularly valuable during Flood encounters, while the Rocket Launcher should be reserved for vehicles, Hunters or tightly grouped enemies.
Halo’s combat sandbox is designed around more than firearms. Grenades, melee attacks and environmental cover should be used together.Frag Grenades bounce before exploding, allowing players to attack enemies behind walls, rocks or other defensive positions. Plasma Grenades can stick directly to targets and are useful against Elites, Hunters and vehicle operators.Melee attacks are most effective after an enemy has been weakened. Charging directly toward a group is dangerous, so players should first remove shields or use cover to approach from the side.
Every combat area should also be treated as a tactical space. Look for:
Higher ground
Side passages
Unused vehicles
Weapon racks
Explosive objects
Safe positions for shield recovery
When Master Chief’s shield warning activates, stop attacking and break the enemy’s line of sight. Waiting a few seconds for the shield to recharge is safer than continuing to trade damage.

Different enemy types require different strategies.Grunts are vulnerable to precision headshots but may rush the player while carrying active Plasma Grenades. Move away immediately when a Suicide Grunt begins charging.Jackals protect themselves with energy shields. Shoot exposed hands or legs, use grenades to force them out of position or attack from the side. Jackal Snipers should be eliminated before other basic enemies because they can pressure players from long range.Elites have rechargeable energy shields. Use a Plasma Pistol or another plasma weapon to remove the shield, then finish them with a Magnum or Battle Rifle headshot.Hunters are heavily armored from the front. Avoid wasting ammunition on their armor and attack the exposed areas on their backs or sides after they charge.During Flood encounters, avoid becoming surrounded. The Shotgun and Sentinel Beam are effective at close and medium range, while open areas provide more room to retreat.
Campaign Evolved expands the original vehicle system with hijacking, seat switching, a fully drivable Wraith and additional space-combat sections. The Warthog performs best when one player drives and another uses the mounted weapon. Drivers should slow down before entering major enemy positions so the gunner can aim accurately. The Ghost is fast and suitable for flanking infantry. Use its mobility rather than fighting heavy vehicles directly. The Wraith is slower but has strong armor and a plasma mortar that fires in a high arc. This makes it useful against enemies hiding behind cover. The Banshee can hover, strafe and boost, but players should remain mobile because it is vulnerable when stationary.Operation: Meteorite also introduces the Seraph. Its plasma cannons require players to aim ahead of moving targets, while its plasma torpedoes need time to lock on.
Halo: Campaign Evolved supports online co-op for up to four players across Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5. Cross-play and cross-progression require players to link a Microsoft account.Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 also support two-player split-screen co-op.
Permanent co-op progression includes:
Unlocked missions
Rally Points
Skulls
Terminals
Achievements
Temporary mid-mission checkpoints and exact player positions do not transfer between platforms.Co-op teams should divide responsibilities. One player can carry a plasma weapon for shield removal, another can use precision weapons, while other players manage explosives, close-range enemies or vehicles. The Fireteam Leader controls Friendly Fire and available mission progress. Groups should check these settings before starting a new campaign.
Halo: Campaign Evolved contains 39 hidden Skulls and 13 Terminals across its 13 missions. Each mission contains three Skulls and one Terminal.Collectibles produce an audible sound when players move close to them. Search optional caves, upper platforms, hidden paths and areas away from the main objective.
The default interaction buttons are:
Xbox: X
PlayStation: Square
Keyboard: E
Collecting any three Skulls unlocks Campaign Remix and automatically grants three additional modifiers:
Adaptation changes enemy factions and encounter combinations.
Reload changes weapons placed throughout missions.
Armistice prevents enemy factions from fighting each other, causing them to focus on the player.
Campaign Remix is best experienced after completing standard missions because its randomized encounters can be more unpredictable.LASO should be left until much later. It requires 17 specific Skulls and combines Legendary difficulty with punishing rules such as limited ammunition, disabled radar and severe death penalties.
Start on Normal unless you are already comfortable with Halo combat. Keep the Magnum or another precision weapon, use plasma damage against shields and retreat whenever your own shield is close to breaking.Use grenades and melee attacks alongside firearms rather than relying on one weapon. Explore side routes for Skulls and Terminals, and learn how each vehicle behaves before driving into a large encounter. After finishing the original campaign, continue with Operation: Meteorite, collect at least three Skulls and try Campaign Remix. Halo: Campaign Evolved rewards players who combine weapons, movement, grenades, vehicles and environmental positioning instead of using the same strategy in every battle, and if you grab a Cheap Halo: Campaign Evolved CD Key, you can jump into all this without breaking the bank.
