The Season 1 battle pass ties directly into the Talon storyline, and players have responded in a big way. To fuel the conflict, five new heroes have joined the roster. 1. Emre

Emre comes across as Blizzard’s attempt to phase out Soldier 76. As far as mid-range hitscans go, his primary fire will wreak havoc, and while the rest of his loadout doesn’t quite match that standard, players who can consistently land headshots at mid-range will have an absolute field day with Emre, even if his Override Protocol ultimate is fairly unremarkable.

The Heat Sink major perk turns Emre’s Siphon Blaster into a tank’s worst nightmare; those with solid accuracy will shred squishy targets using his primary fire, and his grenade offers reliable AOE pressure. When wielding the Siphon Blaster, he gains movement speed and jump height, giving him AOE, mobility, and burst damage all in one kit. Like Mizuki and Soldier 76, Emre’s versatility alone makes him a menace, but his raw damage output may eventually force Blizzard to step in further down the road.

2. Mizuki

Mizuki appears to have graduated from the Kiriko school of support design because his kit is incredibly stacked. He comes with both passive and active healing, respectable primary fire damage, strong mobility through Katashiro return, and CC in the form of Binding Chain. He’s the kind of support that DPS players will gravitate toward because he rewards constant engagement.

His Survivor sub-role grants healing whenever he uses a mobility ability, keeping him alive longer, he has self sustain, and he thrives in brawl compositions that want to stay grouped up. While Kekkai Sanctuary is only moderately impactful on paper, Mizuki’s sheer adaptability is remarkable, and once you master bouncing Healing Kasa, it becomes a genuinely strong asset.

3. Jetpack Cat

At first glance, most of Jetpack Cat’s kit doesn’t seem particularly impressive. She has strong mobility as a flying hero, Purr is a decent healing option, her damage is average, and her ultimate will certainly find value, but Lifeline is what earns her the third spot.

Lifeline is bound to enable creative tech plays that will be very hard to shut down. Heroes and abilities designed around immobility will suddenly gain powerful repositioning tools, with Bastion’s Turret Form and D.Va’s self destruct ultimate as clear examples. Jetpack Cat can bypass the intended drawbacks of certain heroes, like dropping Reinhardt behind enemy lines right before he shatters, and this single ability combined with her own mobility could become game changing, particularly in lower elos where mechanical skill is less consistent.

4. Domina

Domina becomes Overwatch’s second poke tank alongside Sigma. She brings versatility and strong range on her primary fire, particularly after her minor perk extends it. Her shields provide wide coverage, but with only 250 health per segment, that won’t be Domina’s claim to fame.

That said, she can knock enemies around with Sonic Repulsors and unload heavy damage using Crystal Charge and Panopticon. The bulk of her health pool is shield based, and thanks to the Season 1 update, dealing damage regenerates that shielding. Overall, Domina looks like a well rounded pick and a solid poke tank alternative to Sigma.

5. Anran

Despite the controversy around her design, Anran comes across as the weakest new hero, which is telling given her potential to output serious damage. She lacks the burst of fellow DPS Emre, but her strong mobility and escape tools should keep her more than viable.

As the face of the Season 1 Conquest drive, her consistent burn damage can become a real headache for tanks if she’s left alone to stack Ignition. Still, securing eliminations doesn’t seem to be her strength, and she’ll likely struggle to build stacks on fast, low HP targets. Ironically, she’s exactly that kind of slippery target herself, making her surprisingly hard to eliminate.
