Do you know how RDR2 Red Eye work? This short article will guide you on how to use Red Dead Redemption 2 Dead Eye on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
What is RDR2 Red Eye?
Dead Eye is a shooting mechanic in Red Dead Redemption 2 that allows you to slow time and take out a few enemies at once with pinpoint accuracy. It was present in the first game, but it’s been updated and improved for the sequel.
How to use RDR2 Red Eye?
To use Dead Eye in Red Dead Redemption 2, you have to first have your weapon holstered. Then, slowly press and hold R2 (PlayStation 4) or RT (Xbox One). Wait for the meter in the lower right corner to fill up, next to the word “Draw.” You can stay in this “mode” as long or as short as you need. Once you fill the bar up as much as you can, press R2 / RT again to enter Dead Eye mode. Then, take aim, or use whatever Dead Eye special ability you want, and press R2 again to shoot. Simple and elegant, really.
As on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, Dead Eye in Red Dead Redemption 2 can only be activated if the player is already aiming down the sights of their weapon. On PC, that means holding down the right mouse button. Once you're aiming, press the middle mouse button to activate Dead Eye. While in Dead Eye, mark enemies by mousing over them and pressing Q. Left click to start blasting.
How to upgrade RDR2 Dead Eye?
This is a tricky concept. There are two ways to upgrade Dead Eye and we’ll group them under Dead Eye ranks and Dead Eye levels. Dead eye ranks unlock new mechanics for Dead Eye, like tagging targets or the ability to see vital organs. Dead Eye levels refers to the Dead Eye circle on the HUD (heads up display). This circle shows a total of 10 links, and each link represents one possible level of Dead Eye, increasing its duration of use when players call upon it.
There are a number of different items that you can use in the game that will permanently increase your Dead Eye abilities, including giving you permanent buffs through crafting unique items at the Trapper.
You can improve the amount of permanent Dead Eye bars on your Dead Eye meter by earning XP as you play. To earn Dead Eye XP you need to land headshots, kill enemies in free-aim, complete specific challenges related to weapons and shooting, as well as regular stuff such as skinning animals, crafting and cooking. Also, keep an eye out for Valerian Root – this grants you an XP boost to reach the next level on the Dead Eye meter.
