Battlefield 6 is heading back to the Danger Zone with its biggest seasonal event yet. Released on August 18, 2026, the Season 4 Top Gun mid-season update introduces a major collection of aerial, naval, and combined-arms content across Battlefield 6 and its free-to-play REDSEC experience. Players planning to unlock the new Rooster or Bob bundles can also Buy Battlefield 6 BFC from Z2U before visiting the in-game Store.
The collaboration is much more than a set of character skins. Game Update 1.4.2.0 brings back Wake Island, expands Tsuru Reef, introduces two two-seat fighter jets, launches the reimagined Carrier Strike mode, and adds a jets-only REDSEC activity. Players can also complete challenges for Top Gun-themed rewards or try selected Battlefield 6 content during a limited free trial.
According to EA, the update became available to download at 08:00 UTC on August 18, while the new Top Gun content opened at 12:00 UTC. The main event runs until September 15 at 12:00 UTC.

One of the headline additions is the return of Wake Island, one of the most recognizable locations in Battlefield history. Its tropical shoreline becomes a combined-arms battlefield where infantry, ground vehicles, naval forces, and aircraft compete for control.
Players can defend coastal positions, use C-4 against reinforced defenses, and take advantage of an offshore aircraft carrier. EA has not published a complete comparison between this version and every previous interpretation of Wake Island, but the new edition is clearly designed around the aerial and naval focus of the Top Gun update.
Wake Island is also available in the limited free trial and has been added to Battlefield Portal's Verified Experiences, giving more players an opportunity to explore the returning battlefield.
Tsuru Reef, described by EA as Battlefield 6's largest map, has received an expanded playable area. The update adds aircraft carriers and new combat spaces that support fighting across land, sea, and air.
However, the role of the carriers depends on the selected mode. They appear as environmental locations in Conquest and Escalation, while the complete carrier attack and destruction mechanics are exclusive to Top Gun: Carrier Strike.
Portal creators also receive Tsuru Reef SDK support and a new mutator that can enable the Conquest version of the aircraft carriers in custom experiences.
Top Gun: Carrier Strike is a reimagined version of the classic Carrier Assault concept. Rather than focusing entirely on pilots, it requires infantry, naval units, and aircraft crews to coordinate their efforts.
The general objectives include:
Breaking through the enemy's defensive positions
Securing a path toward the opposing carrier
Using naval units to support the main assault
Fighting for control of the airspace
Breaching and ultimately destroying the enemy aircraft carrier
Defending the friendly carrier from the opposing team
This structure gives every type of player a role. Skilled pilots can challenge enemy aircraft, infantry squads can advance on objectives, and naval crews can support the attack from the water.
EA has not disclosed every mechanical detail, such as exact player counts, carrier durability, match length, or whether its internal objectives work exactly like the Carrier Assault systems seen in earlier Battlefield games. It is therefore best understood as a modern reinterpretation rather than a direct copy of an older mode.
Top Gun: Carrier Strike is part of Battlefield 6 and is not normally included as a permanently free REDSEC mode.
REDSEC players receive a different Top Gun experience called Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep. This is a jets-only version of Gauntlet built around intense aerial engagements.
Pilots and their wingmen must:
Operate the new two-seat fighter aircraft
Eliminate rival squadrons
Avoid incoming anti-aircraft fire
Coordinate between the pilot and second crew member
Outlast or defeat the opposing team
Unlike Carrier Strike, Fighter Sweep is available through the free-to-download Battlefield REDSEC. That distinction is confirmed in EA's official legal notes: Carrier Strike is playable in Battlefield 6, while Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep is playable in REDSEC.

The update adds the F/A-81F Super Spectre and F-74A Seacat. Both aircraft are designed for cooperation between a pilot and a second crew member.
The Super Spectre is intended for aerial superiority and precision attacks. Its two-seat arrangement allows the pilot and co-pilot to cooperate against aircraft in the sky and targets on the ground.
The Seacat features variable-sweep wings that adjust during flight. EA presents it as a fast, maneuverable fighter built for changing aerial conditions and close cooperation between two players.
Both jets have also been added to the Portal SDK. EA has not provided complete public statistics for their speed, durability, weapons, or handling, so any detailed performance ranking would currently be speculative.
Game Update 1.4.2.0 makes flying more accessible by introducing an optional Airplane Control Assist. When enabled, it guides an aircraft toward the center of the camera while helping manage pitch, roll, and yaw.
Other aviation and vehicle improvements include:
Better landing-gear physics during takeoff, landing, and taxiing
More visible movement from jet control surfaces
Improved cockpit and exterior jet audio
Dynamic wind sounds that respond to flight maneuvers
Additional airframe strain effects under high G-forces
Improved afterburner audio
More consistent missile and countermeasure interactions
Better laser-designation support for selected weapons
Improved vehicle transitions between water and open air
A new score event for forcing an enemy aircraft to deploy countermeasures
These changes should be particularly useful during the Top Gun event because several activities encourage players to learn the new aircraft.
The Interdictor is the update's new functional weapon. EA describes it as the longest-range sniper rifle in Battlefield 6, designed for extreme-distance engagements.
Its precision is high enough to threaten exposed targets, including pilots visible inside aircraft cockpits. The weapon is unlocked through the Battle Pass, although the announcement does not specify whether it belongs to a free or premium Battle Pass tier.
The Top Gun event introduces Ace Medals, a limited-time currency earned primarily by completing challenges. Instead of following a completely fixed reward line, players can choose the order in which they unlock the first ten available items.
The reward pool contains:
Weapon Packages for several weapon categories
Aerial vehicle skins
Player Profile items
Additional Top Gun-themed customization rewards
After acquiring all ten initial items, players gain access to one final exchange: the "Ace Aviator" Soldier Skin.
Ace Pilot Challenges are available as the standard method of earning medals, with more difficult objectives generally granting more tokens. Season 4 BF Pro members receive additional BF Pro Challenges that provide alternative opportunities to collect medals.
Importantly, EA states that all the medals needed to complete the event can be earned through gameplay. Buying BF Pro or a store bundle is therefore not required to unlock the full event reward selection.
The update introduces CJTF Helix, a new NATO squad inspired by Top Gun characters. Its members are sold through two store bundles, each priced at 2,400 BFC.
The Top Gun: Helix Legacy bundle includes:
Lt Bradley "ROOSTER" Bradshaw
MSgt Aiko "KUNAI" Kamada
Two additional Rooster skins
"Golden Thread" SVDM Weapon Package
"Brave Engage" P18 Weapon Package
Other included items and Ace Medals
The Top Gun: Helix Resolve bundle includes:
LT Robert "BOB" Floyd
Cpt Chris "VORTEX" Del Aguila
Two additional Bob skins
"Measured Cadence" PS5A3 Weapon Package
"Reliable Triple Burst" M16A4 Weapon Package
Other themed items and Ace Medals
EA's article does not list every secondary cosmetic or the exact number of medals included, so players should inspect the in-game store before purchasing.

Fort Lyndon receives a new Battle Royale point of interest called the USS Grant Crashed Carrier. The downed American aircraft carrier creates a coastal combat area where squads can land directly on the deck.
The location offers higher-value loot than a standard POI. During its first weeks, it is also marked as a High Value Zone, making it easier to identify during deployment.
This location should not be confused with Carrier Strike's opposing carriers. USS Grant is a REDSEC Battle Royale POI, not the primary objective of the Carrier Strike mode.
From August 18 to 25, players can access a selection of Battlefield 6 content through a limited trial. The update notes list six modes and four maps:
Tsuru Reef
Wake Island
Cairo Bazaar
Hagental Base
Players must download Battlefield REDSEC and install all required updates. An internet connection and EA Account are required, and the trial can only be used once per EA Account. A platform subscription may also be required on consoles.
After the trial ends, players must purchase Battlefield 6 to continue accessing its paid content. REDSEC remains free to download.
The Battlefield 6 × Top Gun collaboration stands out because it changes several parts of the game at once. Wake Island returns, Tsuru Reef grows, Carrier Assault is reimagined, two cooperative fighter jets arrive, and REDSEC gains both a pure aerial mode and a high-value carrier location.
Combined with the Ace Medal reward system, Portal additions, flight improvements, and free-trial period, the event offers relevant content for pilots, infantry squads, Battle Royale players, and creators. The Top Gun event is scheduled to remain active until September 15, giving players roughly four weeks to complete its challenges and unlock the "Ace Aviator" reward. Those interested in the optional Helix Legacy or Helix Resolve bundles can Top Up Battlefield 6 BFC at Z2U.com and then review the complete contents and prices in the in-game Store before purchasing.
